Set up Milo for your child

Create a profile, choose their first websites, and get Milo ready on their device.

Content updated

Milo controls browsing inside Milo. Your device’s parental controls manage access to other browsers and apps. Setting a default browser alone does not restrict other browsers.

Before you start

  • Your parent email and password.
  • The device your child will use, connected to the internet.
  • A few websites you want your child to visit.

On your device · Parent portal

Create your parent account

  1. Sign up with an email address you control. Complete email verification, then sign into the parent portal.
  2. Keep your parent account password private. Your child uses a profile within your account; they do not need a separate Milo login.

Parent portal · Family

Create a child profile and choose websites

  1. Open Family and choose New profile. Add a name or nickname and an optional description, then choose Create Profile.
  2. Select the profile and open Collections to see the collections available on your plan. Review their websites before enabling them.
  3. With Essentials or Plus, open Allowed Sites to add your own websites. Start with a small set you have reviewed. Free includes a sample collection; custom sites and time controls require a subscription.
Open Family

On your child’s device · Milo app

Install Milo and select the profile

  1. Use the download links on the portal Home page for your device. If a download is not available there, check with support before continuing.
  2. Open Milo and sign in with your parent account yourself. Select the profile you just created.
  3. Wait for the profile and its websites to sync, then open an approved website. If it is missing, check that you selected the same profile in both places.

Protect parent settings

  1. Open parent settings and authenticate with your account password. Choose Parent PIN and set a PIN your child does not know.
  2. Return to the child’s browsing screen. Try opening parent settings again and confirm authentication is required. Keep access to your parent email secure for account recovery.

Keep in mind: The Milo Parent PIN protects Milo settings. The device’s Screen Time, Family Link, and unlock credentials are separate controls.

Restrict other browsers before handing over the device

Follow the iPhone/iPad or Android guide next. Then run the device checklist, including links opened from other apps. Installing Milo does not switch off Safari, Chrome, or other apps.

Check it worked

Troubleshooting

My profile or websites are missing

Check the account and selected profile, reconnect the child’s device, and tap the sync status in the app’s Profile screen to refresh. Wait for a successful sync before checking again.
