Before you start
- Install Milo and sign in before restricting app installations.
- Have your child’s device and your parent Apple Account available.
- Check the OS version under Settings → General → About.
On your device · Apple Settings
Set up parental controls
Use Family Sharing with your child’s own Apple Account. Set a private Screen Time passcode and keep recovery access under your control. For a shared adult device, use the lending guide instead.
On your device · Settings → Family → Your child
With the updated iOS/iPadOS 27 controls
- Open Apps & Websites. Select Safari and choose Block App. Repeat for other installed browsers, keeping Milo allowed.
- In Apps & Websites → App Store, block Installing Apps and review App Clips. If you allow installations, enable Require Purchase Approval under Restrictions → Ask to Buy and review every browser request.
- Review restrictions on app deletion and account changes available in your settings. Keep Milo installed and parent settings protected.
Keep in mind: Apple’s website filtering is a separate layer. Its website approvals do not automatically sync with Milo’s approved sites.
On the child’s device · Settings → Screen Time
With the previous Screen Time controls
- Enable Content & Privacy Restrictions. Open Allowed Apps & Features (called Allowed Apps on some versions) and turn off Safari.
- Remove other browser apps before preventing deletion. Under iTunes & App Store Purchases, set Installing Apps and Deleting Apps to Don’t Allow.
- Review Account Changes under Allow Changes and keep parent-only changes protected. If alternative app distribution is available in your region, review those installation controls too.
Keep in mind: Removing a browser icon from the Home Screen alone leaves the app accessible elsewhere. Use restrictions or delete the app.
Check web access outside browser apps
Test links in the messaging, email, search, and game apps you keep. If an app opens unrestricted websites inside itself, restrict that app or use a single-app session. Confirm that Apple’s content settings still let your approved Milo websites load.

Troubleshooting
My menus look different
Apple’s menus depend on OS version and whether your family upgraded Screen Time. Use the official links below for your version. If the device belongs to a school, ask its administrator about managed restrictions.
An approved Milo website stopped working
Check both Milo’s approved sites and Apple’s web-content settings. Adjust only the specific setting or website needed, then retest all browser restrictions.
