Let your child use Milo on your device

Keep a short browsing session in Milo with Guided Access or Android app pinning.

Content updated · Official sources reviewed; confirm settings on your device

Milo controls browsing inside Milo. Your device’s parental controls manage access to other browsers and apps. Setting a default browser alone does not restrict other browsers.

This is a temporary session. Start it each time you lend the device. Once you end it, your other apps become available again.

Before you start

  • Sign into Milo, select the intended profile, and test an approved site.
  • Keep the session-ending passcode or unlock credentials private.

On iPhone or iPad: Guided Access

  1. Turn on Guided Access. Under Passcode Settings, choose a parent-only passcode. If using Face ID or Touch ID to end sessions, ensure the child cannot authenticate.
  2. Open Milo. Triple-click the side, top, or Home button, depending on your device. Choose Guided Access if prompted.
  3. Review session options, keeping touch and the keyboard available for browsing, then start the session.
  4. Try leaving Milo. To end the session, use the button shortcut, authenticate, and choose End. The ending shortcut can differ on older OS versions; see Apple’s instructions below.

Keep in mind: Apple states that emergency calls and Crash Detection are unavailable during Guided Access. End the session to use those features.

On Android: app pinning

  1. Find App pinning in Security settings (the name and location vary by manufacturer). Turn it on and require authentication to unpin.
  2. Open Milo, open the recent-apps overview, tap Milo’s app icon, and choose Pin.
  3. Try leaving Milo. Check that unpinning requires your PIN, pattern, or password.
  4. To end the session, use the unpin gesture for your navigation mode and authenticate.

Keep in mind: If your child already knows your device unlock code, app pinning does not provide a parent-only exit. Use credentials they do not know before lending the device.

Troubleshooting

My child can end the session

Check the authentication requirement and any enrolled biometrics. Start a new session and test it without your credentials. If you cannot secure the exit, supervise use directly.
